Welcome to Fifth Grade!!  It is with great joy and enthusiasm that I begin this school year to work with you and your children.  My goal is to prepare all my students with the tools necessary to pass the STAAR test, pass to fifth grade, and become independent learners.

I graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree with a concentration in Bilingual Education in 1998.  Ten years later I earned my master's degree, also in Bilingual Education.  Currently, I am interested in returning to UTEP to earn a Phd in Education.

I've been teaching with the El Paso Independent School District for 18 years.  I started teaching the wee little ones in prekindergarten for 1 1/2 years.  After that, I taught fourth grade for 13 1/2 years and now fifth grade.  I sure love it!

This year I am excited to start new teams for competitions with El Paso Community College Young Scholars Bowl open to 3rd thru 5th grades.  I will also continue with Destination Imagination where we hopefully will go to state and global competitions.

Please know that meeting with parents in regards to any questions and/or concerns is a high priority for me.  I can take your calls, 915-236-0550, or meet with you during my conference period (1:45-2:30), or you can email me at ashernan@episd.org.

Thank you, ahead of time, for your support and look forward to a wonderful school year with your child.
